I started this year as I mean to go on, by taking a few weeks off work so I had more time for Cocoa. Today I've finished the Apronyms app which is a viewer for the apronyms on the Apronyms website. It's been in the works since November 2002 but I was distracted by work and Brettrix so I've only just got it finished. It feels so good to get something 'out the door'! I've also fixed up the 'not found' page on this site.
Tomorrow is my last day of freedom before I return to the horrors of Windows programming. I might add a much-requested feature to Brettrix.
In other news, my planned trip to WWDC 2004 is getting increasingly embellished (it's now a three month trip to perhaps a dozen countries) and I'm very excited about it. I'll be setting up a travel blog when I get time. 11 April 2003

I released Brettrix 1.2 today, having discovered a big bug a few days ago. I couldn't help throwing in a few new features as well. I've started learning PHP, because learning PHP seems more exciting than writing server-side code to create the rest of the Acronyms site in C, even though I could reuse some of the existing code. This is sort of Cocoa-related - if I'd done it all in C then I could have stuck the same code into Aquanyms so it could also create all sorts of web pages, just like the old stack does. But since I'm using PHP instead, Aquanyms won't be able to create web pages. I doubt anyone will notice. What they will notice is that Aquanyms will probably be out sooner if I don't feel like I have to write all that HTML-generating C code before releasing Aquanyms. Now, if only I had more free time.
I considered going to WWDC this year, since I can just afford it... but for several reasons I think it'd be better if I go in 2004. |
